Our Investment in Edge Delta
Written byNick Giometti
The amount of data created daily is staggering. As enterprises embrace digital transformation, the magnitude, as well as the number of sources of data collection, have increased exponentially. Two of the strongest driving forces behind this shift have been the adoption of hybrid architectures such as containers and Kubernetes and the adoption of IoT. Unfortunately, with this exponential increase in data comes both the burden of handling and storing it as well as increased difficulty finding signals within the noise.
An area where these pain points become particularly relevant is observability. Traditionally enterprises would collect logs, traces, and metrics and send the entirety of the data corpus to both static storage like data lakes and warehouses for ex-post analysis and centralized observability platforms like Splunk, Datadog, and Sumo Logic for more immediate responses. With hybrid architectures and IoT becoming widespread, sending petabytes of noisy data (e.g. a sensor that sends a log determining whether or not it is functioning 10 times per second) is infeasible both from cost perspective (transfer and storage become prohibitively expensive) and time to action (waiting to generate insights until central processing adds latency that brings dire site reliability, performance, or security consequences).
This is where Edge Delta comes to the rescue. Edge Delta is the first purpose-built edge observability platform. By creating a platform that preprocesses at the point of data collection, Edge Delta has solved the bottlenecks of both cost and latency. Edge Delta enables enterprise customers to start analyzing their data as it is created, where it is created. This increases data visibility by orders of magnitude and reduces the cost of egress (moving data from the source of collection to storage or observability platforms), all in an automated, zero-config fashion. Pre-processing at the source eliminates the need to transfer, centralize, ingest, and index data that lacks actionable insights. This leaves only the essential data to process for anomaly detection, site reliability, or security purposes.
Science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke wrote: “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” From our conversations with customers, Edge Delta elicited a similar response. Eliminating log volumes by more than 95% without the need for data sampling or advanced configuration (such as creating queries and regular expressions for anomaly detection) seems like magic. With a time to value of less than 5 minutes, Edge Delta can generate time-sensitive insights at the source while dramatically lowering log-monitoring costs, all in a solution that is ultrafast and scalable. Edge Delta scales so well not only due to its lightweight configuration but also through its robust interoperability. With more than 45 connectors and integrations, its platform fits seamlessly within enterprise observability pipelines.
We believe Edge Delta represents the future of observability, and a large portion of that confidence comes from the stellar team at the helm. We were struck by CEO Ozan Unlu’s rare combination of hardcore engineering experience from Azure Cloud and demonstrated results in sales at Sumo Logic. Edge Delta is also bolstered by CTO Fatih Yildiz’s technical leadership, who served as an early engineer working on Twitter’s edge architecture. The leadership team’s hard-earned insights and experience have catalyzed through their product innovation, customer-centricity, and consistent ability to execute on their vision.
For all of these reasons and more, we’re thrilled to welcome Edge Delta into the Geodesic family. Congratulations to Ozan, Fatih, and the whole Edge Delta team on this achievement. We know this is just the beginning of our partnership and we look forward to supporting you on your journey as Edge Delta continues to bring the next generation of observability at the edge to the rest of the world.
